French Chew Candy, created in 1896 by Doscher’s Candies in Cincinnati, Ohio, is a classic American treat. Made by German immigrant founders, the Doscher’s started with handmade candy canes before launching French Chew, inspired by Turkish taffy. Sold in slabs and enjoyed by breaking them apart, its playful slogan—“Freeze It, Crack It, Smack It”—reflects the fun experience that made it unique. Its dense, chewy texture and unmistakable character became a nostalgic touchstone, passed down through generations. In a world of constant change, French Chew stood firm—literally and figuratively.

In 2025, The Rice Family acquired the French Chew candy line. and moved the company and production to New Richmond, Ohio. We hope you will stop by for a visit.
